In this opportunity , i would like to tell about what the things which discussed in fourth meeting with Mr. zam-zam. For this meeting we discussed about technology for teaching reading and also this meeting is my friends’ turn to presented their reading syllabus

Technology for teaching Academic reading is designed to develop and sharpen academy, reading skills and strategies in English using technology. Our global aims encompass cultivating selected print and digital literacies necessary for successful reading  in academic, professional, and general place settings where you may found in daily life.

Aplications of technology can help students who struggle with reading and  help teachers overcome many of the challenges. Schools across the United States are already using technology in this way. What we need to do is replicate this success and scale it up. There are a variety of tech tools and methods out there for teaching reading that can make the process easier and more fun for students. While not every high-tech way of teaching reading will work for every class or every student, there’s enough variety that there’s bound to be something for everyone.

• Materials

The materials of this course are combination of teacher’s note and the assigned textbook to meet students’ academic needs and requirements. Educational technology will be utilised in the classroom to clarify the materials main points and to integrate knowledge, intellectual, practical and transferable skills.

Technology for writing

For this meeting we was continue the discussion for the writing syllabus. Mr. zam-zam showed more technology that can we used for teaching writing. Mr. zam- zam offered the technology which can collaborate in writing project. For the example like google drive, in google drive student can work together to make a project. And also students can give the comment as a feed back for their writing progress

While not every high-tech way of teaching writing will work for every class or every student, there’s enough variety that there’s bound to be something for everyone.

This syllabus presented a lot of technology that we can use in teaching writing. for the example such as ; Microsoft word, Microsoft power point, E-mail, Internet, e- book, etc. For those technologies students can use it to help them improving their writing skill. And teacher have to make the right method for teaching writing. Technology can help the teacher and students gain the learning purposes in writing course.

In this opportunity , i would like to deliver about my learning experience in TELL. So, our first meeting with Mr. zam- zam is about introduction. Mr. zam- zam explain about how technology can help us for teaching English. In this era we can use several technology such as Internet, YouTube , Podcast, Skype, Diggo, Kahoot, hot potatos and any other kinds of technology to make learning English became Interesting . And also students will comfortable and enjoy for learning English.

In the last meeting, Mr. sahar explained about Technological pedagogical content knowledge and he also asked us make a video that related with education, or using the technology for education.

so, i decided to make this video with title “how to improve speaking skill by yourself ”

I think you already know that if you want to improve your English speaking skill, you have to practice right? You have to speak.

Studying grammar will never improve your speaking skill, listening to English alone will never improve your speaking skill, you  have  to actually  speak. But what if you don’t have someone to talk to in English ? have you can practice then?

 Well there is technique that allows you to learn to speak English by yourself.

 No speaking partner is required

This technique can help improve many aspects of your spoken English : your sentence structure, your grammar, your vocabulary and most importantly your ability to express your thoughts and ideas effectively .

So what is this technique ?

“Learning speaking English through imitation”

When I talking about imitation , I’m not talking about repeating after native speakers using the exact same word to improve your pronunciation

I’ m talking about something a little more advanced that that

You  listen to a conversation a story , or some kind of speech , and then try to deliver that speech in your own words.

There are  other ways too

For example ,instead of imitating small portions of speech like phrases and short sentences , you can imitate larger portions of speech

So in this case , you wait until the speaker complete a thought or an idea , then pause

And try to express that idea yourself

Another approach is to simply listen to the whole speech and then try to deliver that entire speech yourself.

This technique offers many benefits. You get to listen and imitate correct English which help you learn to form sentences properly.

You get learn to idioms , expressions and other speaking patterns that are used in a day to day Conversation. you get to learn grammar .

When you imitate other people ,you’re learning grammar through a process called implicit learning this is the process where the learning happens without your awareness

When you imitate , you don’t think about grammar . you’re not trying to understand why the present perfect is used this situation or in that situation , instead your focuses on communication – on understanding and expressing ideas. You’re still learning grammar but you are not aware that it’s happening .this is one of proper ways to learn grammar

This is the last meeting with Mr. Dedy. We discuss about TED, a website that shows many talks and speechs with many topics around the world. For me, this site is good for imrpoving listening and speaking skills.

Then, Mr. Dedy introduced a website that made by himself.The website is Etcetera Calls Podcast. The purpose of this web is for improving listening as well as possible. And then Mr. Dedy also introduced a website named ESL Lab.

Is good if we’re mastering the technologies, but we also need to mastering the language skills, because we are basically in language. Thank You.

In the 8th meeting we have discussion about cloud computing.

Cloud computing is delivery of computing services-including servers, storage,databases,networking, software, analytics and intelligence over the internet to offer faster innovation, flexible resource, and economies of scale.

There are many of cloud computing server for the example Google drive. Google drive is Google’s online storage service, which was launched on April 24, 2012. This service is an extension of Google Docs and will replace the URL docs.google.com with drive.google.com once activated.

At the time we have online collaboration , we have free topics to discussion in our group. I with my group was choosing the topic about Tenses, I have write about simple past tense, and also we have save our assignment in google drive. In my opinion Google drive is interesting website because i could save any photos, documents without worried to come out. Now i usually save any moment in my drive.

On the seventh meeting Mr. Dedi tasked us to make an account with WordPress

Then created this account and also i filled my WordPress with my assignments by Information and Communication for education courses. I feel happy when i can using technology to help me complete my assignments. And i have good experience in my WordPress.

On the sixth meeting we were discuss about the characteristic of search engine. We as learners have to use the information accurately and creatively. Mr. Dedy was giving the information about How to evaluate website with six criteria that are ; Authority,Purpose,Coverage, Currency, Objectivity, Accuracy.

Mr. Dedy gave the assignment for us to evaluate the English learning websites and authentic website .I was contribute with my friends that are Ricky Ilham kurniawan and Vany Ika putri to evaluate and make essay.

      This website provides detailed information of the website founder, Josef Essberger and the people who contribute regularly. Most of the people who contribute on the materials to this website are English teachers and TEFL consultants. EnglishClub.com is supported by IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language).

• Purposes

         The general purpose of this website is to help people learn English. Specifically, this website helps people to learn basic English skills such as speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Not only basic English skills, this website also help the users to learn grammar.

• Coverage

      EnglishClub.com promises that everyone who joins this website will get useful materials and will be able to speak English. This website gives learning materials in depth. It also provides many features that useful such as test, quizzes, games, videos, articles, lesson plans, and many other learning resources. This website has a gateway to TEFL.net which is maintained by the same person, Josef Essberger.

• Currency

      For the learning materials, this site doesn’t give any information about when the materials were written or updated. But for articles, they give the information. Because there is no time information of the learning materials, test, and quizzes, we believe that those parts are not updated. But the articles are updated monthly.

• Objectivity

      The information in Englishclub.com is not presented with any particular biases. The advertisements there are not related to the content of this website because those come from google ads. There is an English Store page that sells selected English learning and teaching resources for all levels which all products are directly developed and recommended by English Club.

• Accuracy

      The founder is supported by IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language). We believe that this website is accurate because this site provides correct information related to English language lessons. The materials follow the rules of grammar, spelling, and composition. But unfortunately, this website does not give a bibliography.

ESSAY

English Club (EnglishClub.com) is a free website for English language learning platform. English Club provides various courses and test that can be accessed by anyone. Through our evaluation, we determined some factors to distinguish this site over others on the internet. Some of those factors are: How this site act as a reference for learning, the materials & activities that are provided in the site, and the presentation of the website.

English Club acts as a great reference for English language Learners and teachers. With this site students can learn the four language skills listening, reading, speaking, and writing. They can also study grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. All of those is done through games, videos, lesson plans, quotes, blogs, pictures and a variety of other resources.  This site allows the members to make their own English page with blogs, photos, videos, music, groups and friends. Teachers are allowed to create a group discussion for their students or a group for fellow teachers around the world. English Club promises that everyone who joins this website will get useful materials and will be able to speak English.

We find this website useful as it gives learning materials in depth. It also provides many features that useful such as test, quizzes, games, videos, articles, lesson plans, and many other learning resources. Based on our of evaluation, English Club has a lot of beneficial information and tools for learning and teaching English. This site is accurate and does not give any particular biases. However, the learning materials are not really up to date.  We definitely recommend anyone to use this site as your English Learning platform due to the various tools it provides.

EVALUATION OF AN AUTHENTIC WEBSITE (NEW YORK TIMES)

      The founder of this news portal is Henry Jarvis Raymond and George Jones (the news portal was first created in 18^th September 1851). This website does not give any information about the author/founder. However, we can find about it from other sources (such as Wikipedia). In this news portal, every articles are being provided with the information about the writer and when it was published. The article authors of The New York Times are consisted of the staff from New York Times but also other from freelancer who are trusted by the company.

      The general purpose of this news portal is to provide readers and subscribers with news information through various of articles. The information or the news that are covered in this website are not limited only to U.S but also other countries (global news).

      The information that were given are in depth and detailed. Information related to the article can be used as an English Learning Resource (Reference). For example, expanding various vocabulary and variety of reading activities.

      New York Times is always up to date to cover the latest information or news that are being provided for the readers and especially for the subscribers. Each article is also provided the date of when it was published in order for the readers to be informed whether the informed the validity of the news/information they have read.

      The information that was provided in the site are mostly factual and commonly unbiased (with an exception of the opinion section). This news portal provides various of different topic (World, Politics, Business, Food, Arts and many more) that can be seen on the main page. New York Times does not contain any irrelevant advertisements to disturb any readers (since the website mainly gains profit from the weekly subscription).

      New York Times provides data or information that are needed by the readers regarding the topic of a certain article, either the data being shown directly in the website or provided the valid information sources.

        New York Times (nytimes.com) is a premium news portal that provides a great quality of information for any free users as well as their subscribers. Various articles are available in this news portal and can be used as a news reference, and possibly as an English learning source. Through our evaluation, we determined some factors in order to further identify this news portal. Those factors are: as a reference for learning, the materials provided, and the presentation of the news portal.

      New York Times acts as a decent reference for English learning activity. Even though the main purpose of this news portal to be a portal for news sources, New York Times can also be used as a source to find information references for reading activity and a class discussion. The variety of words used in the articles can also be use as a way to expand any individual’s vocabulary. However, it is important to note that there will be no English materials/theories that will be explained in this news portal.

      New York Times as a news portal, is very useful. This news portal provides articles with various different topics globally. Not only just common news such as political issues and economic crisis, but New York Times also provides some interesting topic (World, Politics, Business, Food, Arts and many more) that can be seen on the main page.

      The articles that are presented in New York Times are quite trustworthy and factual. New York Times rarely gives any biased information (with an exception of the opinion section) as the writers are those who are either the qualified staff or a trusted freelancer (not specifically explained in nytimes.com). The validity of the information in each article can usually be checked in the news portal because the date of when said article was published as well as the informants or links are provided. The advertisements usually consist of job listings or other interesting articles which are not irrelevant and distracting for readers.

Based on our of evaluation, New York Times is a great news portal. This site published many articles that are factual and does not give any particular biases if needed. However we cannot recommend this news portal as a English learning reference, as there are many other websites that are intended for such purpose (such as EnglishClub.com). With that said, it is a great reference for general information.

In fifth meeting Mr. Dedy was asking us to make a class discussion with the question about “The 21st century is marked by, among other, the rapid development technology and its pervasive use in various fields of life, including in education. IN YOUR OPINION, HOW should you as learners need to be prepared? WHAT KINDS of skills do you need to have? WHO should be responsible for such preparations? WHEN and WHERE?”. We have to provide our argument about those question and respond the friends’ answer.

Mr. Dedy was asking us to make Collaborative Glossary where we have required to make 5 glossary that related with academic word and also we have to make the definition and keyword.
